Do You See What God Sees?

The song “Mended” by Matthew West came on the radio a few weeks ago and the emotions of my wait bubbled to the surface like boiling water.

How often do we see ourselves, our situation, or our wait, through our eyes, the eyes of others or the way of the world vs. the Creator who made all those things?

When you are waiting for something your heart desires, it’s so easy to only see one side of the story, yours. To focus on the messy, broken, ugly, unexpected road it’s been. To see the passing time, all the tears and money poured into a dream only to possibly never happen. To relive the heartache, disappointment and hopelessness every month. To put all your attention on what you don’t have. To see ashes with no way of having your story redeemed. To focus on feelings instead of truth.

During my wait, I was only seeing all the things I previously mentioned that I had no room in my heart to understand that God views it differently. So, when the words from this song blared through my radio they spoke directly to my heart and filled a need I hadn’t fully recognized. They reminded me that the way God views me and my wait are not the same as mine, and praise God it’s different. He sees me for who I am according to His word and it revolves around one beautiful, life-giving and freeing word – LOVED.

As you listen to these lyrics, you’ll realize most of the time our mindset about ourselves or situation is negative and worst-case scenario. But Jesus has a response EVERY. SINGLE. time and it’s positive, encouraging and hopeful. That’s how Jesus views us. That’s how He views you.

I hope this song encourages you to see yourself and your situation the way God does. Just like these lyrics remind us, your wait has a purpose, a story to tell, you are not damaged goods. God loves you and He’s right beside you in your wait. Allow Him to change the way you see your wait and yourself because friend, His view provides life, freedom and grace.

I included a few helpful links below to remind us how God sees us and our life. I hope they bring you encouragement today!

“I see my child, My beloved
The new creation you’re becoming
You see the scars from when you fell
But I see the stories they will tell
You see worthless, but I see priceless
You see pain, but I see a purpose
You see unworthy, undeserving
But I see you through eyes of mercy”
